I've just discovered that there's good probablity that I'm related to Ed Gein http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Gein. I was just chatting with my neices, and they said that my father told my SIL that Gein was my grandpa's (my dad's dad) cousin. My neice was saying that Ed Gein's mother's name was Agusta. So I'm looking up the name of my great grandfathers sisters.....and turns out that one of them is named Ida Agusta. So if it's true, Ed Gein was my 1st cousin twice removed. *shudders

oh FUN. that's like in the movie Hitch where Smith hooks Eva Mendez up with the landing documents of her great grandfather or whoever, and then he finds out he was not a butcher by trade but named The Butcher because of being a killer. How romantic was THAT date ? but it would be interesting to form and follow the family tree for notoriety sake

Yeah, his grandfather would be my great great grandfather Johanne Lehrke, who apparently came to this country.....to Wisconsin, from Prussia. I have all the names and dates in my family tree. And the dates match up.

Quote: All of this bizarre handicraft made Eddie into a celebrity. Author Robert Bloch was inspired to write a story about Norman Bates, a character based on Eddie, which became the central theme of the Alfred Hitchcock's classic thriller Psycho. Quote: In 1974, the classic thriller by Tobe Hooper, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, has many Geinian touches, although there is no character that is an exact Eddie Gein model. This movie helped put "Ghastly Gein" back in the spotlight in the mid-1970's. Quote: Years later, Eddie provided inspiration for the character of another serial killer, Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs. Like Eddie, Buffalo Bill treasured women's skin and wore it like clothing in some insane transvestite ritual.

I think it would be interesting to do a gene vs environment study between him and my grandfather. They are so incredibly different.

yeah i was thinking about that earlier, like wondering if it was all environment, or if there was some sort of mishap during ed's creation/birth, both, or what. lots of people, sadly, grow up in violent depraved homes but only a % of them turn out like mr gein... it would be 'good' to study why and how that happens.
