Link to post The Olympics Thread
I suspect this thread will self destruct just like our opening ceremonies did. My goodness that was embarrassing. I watched because i like Wayne Gretzky and wanted to at least watch the main opening part - and the damn stuff would not work! ARGH. Did anyone else watch?? There were 4 torch bearers waiting for these 4 giant 'ice' posts to come up with a big cauldron and they wouldn't! Everyone was standing around waiting,,, then finally after a few minutes 3 of them came up (NOT 4,,,,) so then the 4th girl just had to stand there and not light anything... then gretzky was supposed to go light the outdoor cauldron but i saw him have to get a new torch because his was totally burnt black. He stood in the back of a truck to get there faster and looked like he lost his balance a few times (even shook his head once after a little stumble). It was quite embarrassing.
Add that to the death of a 21 year old Luger earlier in the day and I think our olympics are cursed!! There is talk about how the posts he hit were supposed to be covered in padding, but they weren't. And then others saying he was going way too fast anyway so it wouldn't have mattered if they were padded or not.... very sad for that young man and his family. But then to have the opening ceremonies have so many problems, it was like an omen or something.

oh and to top it off, i am pretty certain Bryan Adams was lipsyncing (badly lipsyncing i should say) and nelly furtato looked like she was doing auditions for a strip bar instead of showing off as hosts of the olympics.... Go Canada? lol

They say that when you get close to 90 miles an hour the luger cant control anything......the tracks are just too dangerous if that's the case.....so sad. Did you see the Georgia team walk in? I missed it but saw pics.....so so sad.
Anyway, the girl and I watched the show after they all marched in and YOU HAVE ABSOLUTLY NOTHING TO BE EMBARRASED ABOUT.....that glitch with the torch was nothing......the rest of the show was AMAZING and we pretty much watched it all with our mouths hanging open.

Go Canada? lol I didnt see Bryan Adams and Nelly, but the girl and I were saying that we thought Sarah MacLauglan was lipsyncing......but then I also told her it might just appear that way because of how huge the venue was, that the sound just might have been off with the lips.

ooo i hope that was it, cos when Byran was singing, he didnt even have the mic up to his mouth several times when i could hear the sound. I'll blame our CTV for having a lagging signal lol.
It was a pretty show, I just felt bad for some like Katrina (the torch bearer who had to just stand there) because they focused the camera right on her face and you could see she was uncomfortable. Not angry but like 'oh mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn this sucks' lol sort of thing. I loved the fireworks and just spent some time praying that gretzky wasn't going to fall out of that damn police truck. They are having a lot of protester issues so an escort was the best way to go. I must say i understand the protester's issues. there are a LOT of homeless in vancouver and bazillions was spent on getting ready for the olympics while the poor go hungry and ignored.... BUT i think they also interfered too much this time. The prime minister was doing a tour of they city a couple days ago and was supposed to go to a chinese community center to do a little speech and hang out, but it was delayed a couple hours because protesters had chained the doors of the center shut! i'm sorry but if you are trying to get your word across, interfering with a community center is not realllly the way to do it. The torch relay route had to be changed as well because they had gathered to block a street. So there is a lot going on behind the scenes that didn't help with all the hub bub over the technical issues.
The Georgia team... ugh... alll I could think was I hope they take home a whack of medals because some just looked so upset and heart broken, dejected - so I hope the team can get some good stuff going and feel like they were carrying on for their boy.

oh and I think sarah is very rarely lipsyncing so if she looked like that too (i didnt see her), then maybe it was just the sound.

Allison, Chris, and I thought it was awesome! He was so funny -- "So that's what patriotism looks like" -- and Allison was getting dizzy when the prairie kids was in the air... and we had to explain why Gretzky is called "The Great One"...
People here have been suggesting putting together some trains to ship our snow up to Vancouver!

lol yeah really. Actually i was watching something on a US channel talking about the lack of snow in vancouver... um... that's the norm in the city lol. It's always hilarious when they do get snow in the city itself cos there will be fender benders going on all day. We tease vancouver people about having no freaking clue about driving in snow. They got about a meter in winter 2008/09 and the stores sold out of winter gear cos it's normally quite mild and nice. it's like england - mostly just rain and wet air lol. But the mountains surrounding the city get snow cos they are so much higher of course. It's always touch and go if they use real or manufactured snow. my high school friend mark is a snowboard instructor out at Whistler, has been since the early 90s, and most years they have to use a lot of manufactured snow cos it's too mild out there for 'real' snow. I think they were hoping for a lot more real snow than they got, but it's nothing new out there. My good friend tracy is from north vancouver and she moved to alberta 3 years ago BECAUSe she wanted snow. She is always like 'so THIS is what snow looks like' on her facebook page. She loves it. She is crazy HAHA
