In the news paper yesterday there was a big story about how city council is trying to pass some new bylaws for pet owners - one in particular is causing great concern because it involves fining people $350 if they are found walking their pet outdoors and do not have a poopy-bag with them. Not that your dog pood and you walked by (they already fine for that), but if the bylaw officer sees you and asks to see your poopy-bag, but you don't have one, you can get a ticket. A whopping big ticket. Now that just sounds ridiculous!
One man expressed concern saying his dog is ten years old and only 'goes' once or twice at the most on walks so he only brings a few bags with him. If his dog is done the deeds, he will use his spare bag to pick up garbage or some other dog's doodie that someone else has left behind. So he said "what if I just picked up 3 piles off poop, I'm out of bags and heading home, and I end up getting a fine?". He said he would have to carry the poop with him instead of finding a garbage bag, just to avoid the bylaw officer. What are things coming to?? One time I took sheiba to the park by my house and she pooed twice right away so I turned around to go home and get some more bags in case she felt the need to do it AGAIN. If that bylaw was in effect back then and the officer stopped me, I could have been ticketed $350. That is just plain stupid.
Anyway in the same newspaper, they had another article about city council and how they are looking into banning single use plastic bags from being used at stores or sold (other than garbage bags I guess). So I wonder if they will allow the sale of single use doggie poo bags to continue in light of their other bylaw that's in the works. We picked up a box of tiny black baggies at the dollar store but they are plastic - will they be banned? Or will they be classed as garbage bags? I just don't know. But it all makes me want to move out of the city so badly. We talk about trying to get a home in the county instead where there are fewer bylaws coming at us from all directions (at least for now).
But it would be interesting if they put in the doggie doodoo bag bylaw and then ban the sale of those bags - what are people supposed to use? A cardboard box? A little paper bag (especially delicious for extra icky doodoo). I know, gross topic, but for pet owners that have to put up with all this... crap lol... it's aggravating. They are also wanting to increase the yearly license fee yet again, which is only punishing people that actually do follow the law. And they want to decrease the number of animals we are allowed to have to 3. That's because some lady had over 100 last year and they had to be rescued. What about people that already have 4? They have to choose which animal to give up after years of keeping good care of it? Strange.
