Next weekend is Valentine's Day... anyone have any special plans? What do you normally do? I noticed when I was in England that it wasn't a big of a deal as over here lol. As in, not everyone gave all their kids presents and treats, it seemed mainly to be reserved for partners. But that was 12 years ago so things might have changed ? lol

Over here, I give the kids a treat like a little box of chocolates, and a little gift. This year I found some books that were on awesome sale so they will get those with cheap treats lol. Darian won't actually be here cos her dad is picking her up for the week (no school), so I'll have to do her's on the Saturday morning. As for C, I'll prob just get a yummy treat and make a big pancake breakfast (hmmm maybe even heart shaped pancakes lol), but we don't have plans to actually GO anywhere. We haven't the last couple years, it's more just for fun. But that will also mark our 2 year anniversary of moving in together (which is officially the longest I have lived with someone after having a kid with them LOL)... so I'll just give him a card and have not thought of a cool cheap present yet ;)

T'will be 6 years that J and I got engaged. We usually do an exchange of cards and little gift (he usually gets me roses and chocolate).

Though this year - weather permitting - we will be going to my parents for the long weekend (3rd Monday of February is a civic holiday in Ontario, Family Day). A promise McGuinty made if elected, 3 years ago.

We have family day on the 15th lol. I thought your's was the same as our's but I guess not haha. Then the kids have the whole week off cos of teacher's convention.

I picked up a hannah montana choco heart for darian today, a smarties one for kev, and a Cars one for matt. I got calvin a ferrero rocher (sp) one with all different kinds in it cos he loves those, and an Avenged Sevenfold tshirt. Nothing says I LOVE YOU better than a heavy metal band tshirt with some weird animal skeleton on it lmao.

*Blinks*

3rd Monday of February is the 15th, this year :) So it's on the same day. Is yours always on the 15th or it's the 3rd Monday of Feb?

Nice personal choices you bought, good going! I hope Calvin treats you like a queen :hrtthrb:

LOL I don't know when it all started, I can't remember, but it seems to me there were a few provinces doing it at the same time. I just can't remember if Ontario was in that first list or not. I'm guessing it's been at least a decade. They were going to do away with it, but kept it for some reason.

Here is a valentine's idea for everyone,,,, http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/re ... -bathrooms visit this canadian restaurant that is trying to encourage customers to have sex in their bathroom. Sorry but I think my days of taking risks with other people's nasty juices laying around are far behind me lol.

I just looked up Family Day and holy crap it's been going for over 20 years now. Shows how much I pay attention LOL:

Former Lieutenant Governor Helen Hunley was responsible for proclaiming the holiday. The Premier of Alberta at the time that helped make the day a statutory holiday was Don Getty in 1989. Getty received some criticism from employers who thought the holiday was unnecessary. To make up for it Heritage Day was downgraded from a statutory holiday to a civic holiday. Alberta was the first province in Canada to have a statutory holiday in February. The holiday always falls on the third Monday of February so it will coincide with the American holiday, President?s Day.

Other provinces in the country have followed Alberta?s lead introducing statutory holidays in February. Saskatchewan celebrated its first Family Day Feb. 19, 2007. Manitoba had its February holiday introduced thanks to a local radio station that started a petition. Manitoba just celebrated its first February holiday this week, but it is called Louis Riel Day. Ontario has also just celebrated its first Family Day.

Family Day is not just a holiday in Canada -- it is also celebrated around the world. Australia celebrates Family and Community Day on the first Tuesday of November. In 1995, Easter Monday was renamed Family Day in South Africa.

Mayor Glenn Taylor says the holiday is great for everyone.

?It helps break-up the hectic pace of our lives and lets us take a moment with our family.

It still is just for partners here, not kids. I tend to ignore it and sulk lol.
I think I may be doing the ignore thing lol, although I have been asked out to dinner next week, Valentines day was not specifically mentioned.
