Ok, so my sil is telling me that my dad told my brother this info, and since my brother is no longer alive I cant confirm it....and my dad doesnt seem to know what they are talking about. At any rate, from what I've found digging around, my grandfather and Ed Gein were not cousins, but its possible they were related in some way......according to census records, my grandpa's grandfather and Ed Gein's grandfather were 2 years apart in age, and both worked at a saw mill. I'm still working on finding out if they were related, if they were brothers, that would make Ed Gein and my grandfather 2nd cousins. So I'll have to try and do some more digging. I'll let you guys know if I ever get this figured out.

confusing eh? My mom's parents have pretty good records for their families, but my dad's is a nightmare. I can't get past my great grandfather (paternal). It seems he came over here and changed him name, and then lied about his age a few years later so he could be in WW1 (he was too young), so all our records are a bit of a mess and no real idea where he came from before that. They think they know he is from a family in Somerset, the names and ages fit, but unless they do a DNA trace on the line, they won't be positive. When I found a website searching for my surname, they were thrilled to pieces to find us because they had a 'dead line' and didn't know where to look... well here we are lol. Spread across Canada. So who knows what skeletons could be in our closets if people do more digging lol. Good luck with your searches I know it can be mind boggling! Calvin's great grampa was an MP (minister of parliament) and didn't know until I did some traces online lol.

It's wierd to me that my father seems to know so little about his grandfather, but I guess since his grandmother died when his father was so young that's why. Maybe my grandpa just wasnt that close to his father. But I love this geneology stuff....its fascinating. Quote: Calvin's great grampa was an MP (minister of parliament) and didn't know until I did some traces online lol. Thats pretty cool.

I would say my dad knew virtually nothing about his grandfather, since I barely even knew his name. My dad's family were not that close, so i'm super glad to have facebook (found lots of aunties uncles and cousins i never knew existed before FB lol) . I had no idea how many brothers and sisters my grampa had, no clue at ALL about my great grandfather's family (and still not much of a clue, but better than before lol). So I can see it happening. Calvin's grampa passed away last summer and it was during his eulogy that we learned more about the family. I asked for a printout because it had names and dates of everyone... that's when i looked up his great grandfather online and found out why he left his kids with a relative for a few years lol - the dates and middle name exactly matched an MP. When he finished his term with that, he moved back and got the boys again (calvins grampa). We tried to find photos online but couldnt, but I did track down HIS parents (great great grandparents) online to Wales but then the line goes cold again. But it was further than C has ever known and some things his dad didnt know at all either lol

On my grandmothers side (wife of the grandfather we've been talking about) apparently her grandfather was from Canada, but all I know is his father's name, I've never found any proof that he was Canadian, nor can I trace that line to save my life. Hey, maybe since I can get into Ancestry.com now I should try him again.

I found that my great grandfather married an American woman,,, or so the family says but I too haven't found much. I do find lots of her family name in the US though (Nugent) so maybe it's true. Who knows lol.
